UniChem Completes First Round Of ‘Your Pre-Reg’
Training Conferences
UniChem Professional Services has successfully delivered the
first of three conferences scheduled as part of its pre-registration support
package for independent pharmacists.
The ‘your pre-reg’ four-day conference was held to provide pre-registration
students with relevant professional training to assist them in meeting the
performance standards required by the RPSGB. The sessions focused on key
chapters from the British National Formulary and were underpinned by group case
study work, which was designed to assist students in applying their clinical
expertise.
The first conference covered a number of clinical topics including
cardiovascular and gastro intestinal conditions, skin and childhood conditions
and respiratory conditions. The conference also explored remuneration issues
including the drug tariff, as well as providing insight into how pharmacy
services may be presented to PCTs and LPCs for commissioning. Pre-reg students
also developed and reflected on their soft skill capabilities, through
prioritisation and time management activities.
Commenting on the conference, Sanjay Pathak, Commercial Services Manager,
UniChem, said: “Relating their learning experience to the mapped performance
standards as required by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society definitely helps to
motivate students to apply their clinical expertise. We have also focused
heavily on the importance of putting together good quality evidence as CPD,
which will benefit them throughout their careers. The students also seemed to
enjoy learning how to carry out clinical and diagnostic testing and applying
their theoretical knowledge to case studies."
“Overall, the conference was well received and the feedback to date has been
very favourable. The ‘your pre-reg’ training conferences aim to make learning
fun and interactive, through practical application and a variety of teaching
and facilitating strategies. We are keen to ensure that all pre-reg students
are fully engaged in the learning process.”
