UniChem Launches Pre-Registration Training Package for Independent Pharmacy

UniChem is pleased to announce the launch of its pre-registration training programme for independent pharmacy. This unique package comes as a result of shared knowledge from within Alliance Boots. It is designed to provide a comprehensive and fully mapped-out course, which meets the requirements of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

The course offers an all-inclusive training package, encompassing a wide range of professional and commercial training. All training materials, as well as tutor and trainee support, will be centrally provided by UniChem’s dedicated Professional Services team.

Commenting on the new programme, Sanjay Pathak, Commercial Services Manager, says: “Pharmacies attract a fee of £16.5k in England and Wales and £12.5k in Scotland, to train a pharmacy pre-registration student. Most independent pharmacies do not take on a pre-reg trainee due to their current workload and lack of time to support the student’s education and development, yet many then find it difficult to attract and retain ‘good’ pharmacists.”

“The UniChem programme is designed to help independent pharmacists fulfil their moral and ethical obligations while hosting a pre-reg student. The purpose of the programme is to provide a ‘one-stop shop’, comprehensive and cohesive training and support package for both the trainee and their tutor. The course incorporates regular monthly communications with UniChem’s Professional Services team and is strongly underpinned with an emphasis on developing competent and confident pharmacists. The aim is to prepare pre-reg students to maximise the opportunities within the ever-changing face of pharmacy.”
